The New Orleans Metropolitan Association of REALTORS® is honored to support unCommon Construction again this year. Our contribution put them over the top in reaching their Give NOLA Day goal of $25,000 and NOMAR was there to celebrate the success of all their apprentices.

UnCommon Construction (UCC) is a non-profit in which youth from different high schools apply to join a diverse team to earn hourly pay and school internship credit for building a house in a semester. With the revenue from each project, apprentices also earn a matching "Equity Award Scholarship" for further education, industry certifications or the tools needed for long-term employment. Through more than 100 hours each semester, apprentices develop career awareness and exposure, technical, soft skills, and leadership abilities through a work-based learning experience in a real-world classroom.

unCommon Construction's Apprenticeship Program is built through support & partnership from across the industry, the New Orleans community, and beyond. Contributions from UCC Sponsors help them pay for...Tools, Labor & Materials, Curriculum & Space, Insurance Policies and Transportation.

UCC NOLA typically rehabs or builds more than one house in a neighborhood, which is usually facing issues of blight and neglect. "One house is just fixing something, but two or three houses, that's starting something," one of the apprentice's told us. The idea is that more than one house being rehabbed or rebuilt helps spur along owners and residents to take control of the quality of their neighborhood and invest in beautifying where they live.
