In Washington, DC, the House and Senate have each passed their own versions of Tax Reform. Now, those bodies are meeting to do what REALTORS® do every day - negotiate. As the two sides meet for negotiations, we need to stand together as REALTORS® to encourage them to do two things:
- Retain the current law on Mortgage Interest Deduction to maintain a total cap of $1 million on primary and secondary homes; and,
- Retain the current law on Capital Gains Exemption of up to $250,000 for single filers and $500,000 for joint filers who lived in a primary residence for two of the previous five years.

Condolences
Jack White, husband of Betty White of RE/MAX Affiliates, passed away on December 9. Services will be held today with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m., followed by mass at 11 a.m. at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal Street. Burial will be for family only.
2018 Mandatory Topic CE Now Available at NOMAR
The 2018 LREC-mandated CE topic, Real Estate Best Practices, is now available through NOMAR. Please visit the January calendar and the February calendar for current offerings. NOMAR continues to work to schedule more offerings of this course.
How Do I Know if I Have All My CE?
NOMAR does not track your CE hours. To check your approved credit hours, visit the LREC website and view your education record. Please keep in mind that it may be up to 45 days before a course you completed is reflected on your LREC education record. Be sure to keep your CE certificates in a safe place. If you have an issue with a course, contact the provider listed on your certificate.
2018 Agent Mandatory Topic Information
LREC's 2018 mandatory topic course is titled Real Estate Best Practices. It is a 4-hour course and must be completed as part of your required hours. NOMAR is currently awaiting approval to offer the course and will include offerings as soon as possible in 2018.

Code of Ethics Cycle V - What You Need to Know
All members of NAR must complete ethics training during Cycle V between January 1, 2017 and December 31, 2018, regardless of when you last completed it.

To take it for free online, no CE credit: Complete the training offered by NAR here. Click the non-CE option, as Louisiana does not allow CE credit for this course.
To take it for CE credit at NOMAR: Visit our website's monthly calendar to find an offering and register. Upcoming offerings: January 18 in Metairie, January 23 in Mandeville, February 8 in Mandeville, and February 22 in Metairie.
To take it for CE credit with another provider: Choose an LREC-approved online course provider who offers REALTOR® Code of Ethics. Send NOMAR a copy of your completion certificate - other providers are under no obligation to notify us when you take Code of Ethics!
If you are a NOMAR member and hold only an appraiser license, you may submit your USPAP certificate from 2017 or 2018 to NOMAR for ethics training credit.
Remember, you do not have to complete Code of Ethics for CE! CE hours are a matter of licensure and therefore under the purview of LREC. Code of Ethics training is a matter of membership in the National Association of REALTORS®.
